Ralph Fletcher

Our visit from author Ralph Fletcher was wonderful.  The kids really enjoyed meeting him and hearing about how he writes books.  They were great listeners and they asked intelligent questions.  If you did not purchase any of his books and your kids are interested, they will be at our Book Fair.  His books are also sold at Blue Willow Bookstore.

Collecting and Organizing Data

In Science, we are learning about the Scientific Method.  Today we focused on the data part of it.  We each came up with a question, surveyed the class using tally marks and then turned our data (information) into a bar graph.
In Math we played the Number Grid Game which is also on Everyday Math Online.  I showed them all how to log on today so hopefully it will work for you tonight.

Communities

We are learning about communities in social studies.  We did our first group activity today where we were drawing a community.  We had to work together to decide what it needed and we needed to make sure it had the 4 parts of a community.  They did a great job!

Reading

We have been getting all of our procedures and expectations down for reading.  We have been busy!  Today we talked about being a real reader and not a fake reader.  We sorted out some examples of both and then went to read, practicing real reading.
